Laura was always what one might call “bookish” and loved getting lost in between the pages of novels. Some of her fondest memories growing up were the annual summer trips to the big city of Denver and the amazing bookstore called The Tattered Cover.  However, it was at college where her true “nerdiness” was allowed to shine forth. After meeting her now husband, Price Johnston, she was introduced to the world of Dungeons and Dragons . . . and that ladies and gentlemen, was as they say, that! She was hopelessly drawn in – a chance to play like the characters she had dreamed about so many times? Sold! Magic the Gathering, World of Warcraft, and all the amazing opportunities before her were almost overwhelming – but so exciting.  And then, then came a trip to her very first GenCon in 2007. There she was immersed into an amazing community that stunned her with their passion about all “this stuff” – and she knew she had found her people.  Even better, in 2009, she and her husband welcomed their nerd-in-training daughter to the world - Rhya (named after a character she had developed for the video game “Champions of Norrath”).

Laura is an Educator and has spent the first part of her career working with middle school students creating the positive changes she wishes to see in the world.  She has a Bachelor’s in History and Teaching from Colorado Mesa University (go Mavs!), a Master’s in Reading Education from the University of Florida (go Gators!), and a Master’s in Educational Leadership from Colorado State University (go Rams!).  She has co-authored a series of children’s books, The Badger Books, with author Barbara K. Tyner, and is currently working as the Developmental Editor for all future novel projects, as well as, of course, co-founding Netherhavyn Game Works.
